PARKS
FROM BH
Urban parks are expressions of the right to the city and leisure and tourism practices. And more than that, they represent an indicator of environmental health and have an impact on the quality of life and the democratic and accessible occupation of public space by the population. Belo Horizonte, formerly known as Cidade Jardim, has 38 million m2 of green areas, 14 million of which are made up of municipal public spaces - 75 parks, more than 750 squares and gardens and about 210 free spaces for public use.

Faced with this scenario, the producer Coreto Cultural carries out the project “Parques de BH”, made possible with funds from the Four Seasons notice of the Belo Horizonte Municipal Tourism Company - Belotur. The idea consists of a web series to publicize the beauty of the parks and expand the tourist potential of the capital of Minas Gerais, with the dissemination of its vocation for nature and well-being.

The premiere will take place on January 30th, taking place in the Jacques Cousteau Municipal Park.

Jacques Cousteau Park emerged from a 468,500 m2 plot of land that, for 20 years, was one of the largest dumps in Belo Horizonte. In 1971, it became Parque Vila Betânia and, in 1976, when it was already known as Horto Municipal, it was transformed into a Biological Reserve and the main seedling production nursery in the capital of Minas Gerais.
Jacques Cousteau supplied streets, squares and parks in Belo Horizonte with tree and ornamental species. Founded in 1991, the city's Botanical Garden functioned for 9 years inside the Jacques Cousteau Park, until the construction of its own headquarters, in the Pampulha region. In 2001, the Botanical Garden was moved to its current location, within the area where the Zoo also operates, where the production of large species is concentrated to meet the needs of BH.
Today, with 335 thousand square meters, the Jacques Cousteau Park has more than 70 shrub and ornamental species, in addition to rich organic compounds that contribute both to the beauty of the landscape and to the health of the lungs of our eternal garden city.
